Your First Bridal Appointment: What to Wear, What to Bring & What to Expect

If you're reading this, firstly… congratulations! 🤍

Whether you've just got engaged or your wedding countdown is officially underway, booking your bridal appointment is such an exciting milestone. But if you're also feeling a little nervous, you're definitely not alone.

One of the questions I'm asked almost every day is: "What should I wear to my bridal appointment?"

Closely followed by...

"What if I don't know what style suits me?"

"Will the dresses fit?"

"What actually happens during the appointment?"

So, I thought I'd answer them all in one place.

At The Corner Atelier, we're a modern micro bridal boutique in Manchester, and my goal is simple: to help every bride feel like the most beautiful version of herself on her wedding day.

Here's everything you need to know before you walk through our doors.

What Should I Wear to My Bridal Appointment?

The good news?

There isn't a strict dress code.

The most important thing is that you arrive feeling comfortable and like yourself. Wedding dress shopping should be exciting, not stressful.

Here are my top recommendations...

Nude underwear

Simple, seamless nude underwear is always the best option.

It helps you imagine each dress without bright colours, patterns or lace showing through lighter fabrics.

Think practical rather than glamorous!

Keep your makeup light

A little makeup is absolutely fine, but I'd recommend avoiding heavy foundation and fake tan where possible.

Our sample dresses are loved by lots of brides, and we'd like to keep them looking beautiful for everyone who visits.

Bring shoes (if you have them)

Already bought your wedding shoes or have something a similar height to what you're thinking?

Bring them along!

If not, don't worry at all. Most brides haven't chosen their shoes yet, and we'll still be able to help you picture the finished look.

Wear your hair how you feel most like yourself

Whether that's loose waves, a sleek bun or a ponytail, wear it however you normally feel your most confident.

If you'd like to see how different hairstyles change the overall look, we're always happy to experiment during your appointment.

What Should I Bring?

Aside from yourself...

Bring the people whose opinions matter most (optional - we also love a solo bride date).

Our standard appointments welcome up to three guests, while our Luxe Appointment includes space for four.

Whether that's your mum, your best friend, your sister or you simply want to come on your own, we'll make sure your appointment feels special.

If you have Pinterest boards, saved Instagram posts or screenshots of dresses you've fallen in love with, bring those too - but don't worry if you don't.

Some of our brides find their dream dress is completely different to what they imagined.

Keeping an open mind is often where the magic happens.

What to Expect at Your Bridal Appointment

The moment you arrive at The Corner Atelier, I want you to feel like you can take a deep breath.

No rushing.

No pressure.

Just a calm, welcoming space where it's all about you.

We'll start by chatting about your wedding.

Your venue.

Your style.

How you want to feel on your wedding day.

Then we'll explore the boutique together.

Rather than endless rails of dresses, you'll discover a carefully curated collection of modern designer gowns and beautiful pre-loved dresses, each chosen because I genuinely believe in it.

You'll choose a few favourites, and I'll often suggest a couple of styles you may not have considered (these are surprisingly often the ones brides fall in love with)!

As we go, I'll clip, pin and style each gown so you can really see the vision.

No matter your size, my job is to help you imagine how your dress could look when it's made just for you.

Towards the end of your appointment, we'll revisit your favourites & we can start accessorising, before celebrating (if) you've found your dress.

And if you haven't?

That's absolutely okay too.

There is never any pressure to make a decision.

What Makes The Corner Atelier Different?

I intentionally created The Corner Atelier to feel different from a traditional bridal boutique.

As a micro boutique, we purposely limit the number of appointments we offer each week.

That means when you visit, the boutique is exclusively yours.

You'll never be sharing your appointment with another bride.

You'll never feel rushed.

And from your very first enquiry to collecting your dress, you'll always be dealing with me.

I know every bride by name, and I genuinely love being part of your journey. It's one of the reasons I opened the boutique in the first place.

Our Carefully Curated Collection

Every designer at The Corner Atelier has been chosen with the modern bride in mind.

We're proud to stock collections from Kelly Lin Couture, Miss Chloe Bridal, Love and Liberty, Alba & Stardust and Elli Nicole Bridal, alongside a thoughtfully curated edit of beautiful pre-loved gowns.

Rather than trying to be everything to everyone, I've chosen collections that reflect effortless style, exceptional quality and timeless design.

Because finding your dress should never feel overwhelming.

"I'm Nervous..."

If I had £1 for every bride who walked through the door and said... "I'm so nervous!" ...I'd probably have a second boutique!

Honestly, it's one of the most common things I hear.

And almost every appointment ends with... "I don't know why I was so nervous."

Whether you've never tried on a wedding dress before or you've visited other boutiques already, my aim is to make you feel relaxed, comfortable and completely yourself.

Will the Dresses Fit Me?

Yes... and no — and that's completely okay.

Every sample gown in the boutique will need to be clipped, pinned and adjusted on every bride. That's because it's a sample, not your dress.

Our sample gowns are typically between UK sizes 10–16, but don't let that put you off if you're outside that range.

Our job is to help you see the vision, so don't worry if a dress feels a little big or snug. We'll style it in a way that helps you imagine how it will look when it's made in your size.

What Happens When I Say Yes?

Firstly...We'll celebrate! 🤍

Once you've found your dress, we'll take your measurements and place your order with your designer.

Your gown is secured with a 50% deposit, with the remaining balance due four weeks later.

We'll also talk you through lead times, alterations and everything that happens next, so you leave feeling excited - not overwhelmed.

Quick Questions

Can I take photos?

Absolutely.

I simply encourage brides to focus on how they feel first, rather than over-analysing every photo. Your emotions are often a much better guide than your camera roll.

Do I need to know what style I want?

Not at all.

Many brides discover their favourite dress is completely different to what they expected.

Do you offer alterations?

While alterations aren't carried out in-house, I work with trusted independent seamstresses across Manchester and will happily recommend someone.

Do you stock pre-loved wedding dresses?

Yes! Alongside our designer collections, we have a carefully curated range of beautiful pre-loved gowns for brides looking for a more sustainable option.

Ready to Start Your Dress Journey?

Choosing your wedding dress should be one of the most memorable parts of planning your wedding.

At The Corner Atelier, my promise isn't simply to help you find a beautiful gown.

It's to create an experience where you feel relaxed, celebrated and completely yourself.

Because when you feel like the most beautiful version of yourself, everything else just falls into place.

If you're looking for a modern bridal boutique in Manchester, I'd love to welcome you to The Corner Atelier and be part of your journey.

I can't wait to meet you.
