When should you start wedding dress shopping?

As a general guide, we recommend starting your wedding dress shopping journey around 12–18 months before your wedding day.

This gives you plenty of time to explore styles, visit boutiques, and find a dress that feels like you - without pressure.

If possible, we suggest aiming to say yes to your dress (if you haven't before) by the 9-month mark before your wedding.

This allows everything else - ordering, delivery, and alterations - to happen smoothly and without stress.

Why wedding dress timelines matter

Every bridal journey is slightly different, but timing plays a big role in keeping everything relaxed and enjoyable.

Here’s why planning ahead helps:

Made-to-order gowns take time

Most of our wedding dresses are made-to-order, meaning your gown is created especially for you.

This process typically takes 4–6 months, depending on the designer and style.

Each dress is carefully crafted and shipped with intention - it’s not fast fashion, it’s considered bridal design.

Alterations are part of the journey

Once your dress arrives, it will usually require alterations to achieve the perfect fit.

Most brides will need a couple of fittings, and this stage is just as important as choosing the dress itself.

Good alterations take time - and that time is what ensures your dress fits beautifully on your wedding day.

Peak seasons book up quickly

Both bridal designers and seamstresses can get especially busy during peak wedding seasons.

Allowing extra time means:

  • more flexibility

  • less stress

  • and a smoother, more enjoyable experience overall

Short timelines are still possible

If your wedding is soon and you've left dress shopping later than expected, please don’t worry - you still have options.

These can include:

There is always a way forward - it just depends on your timeline.

  • May 2027 weddings → May–Aug 2026

This is simply a guide - not a rulebook. Every bride’s journey looks slightly different, and we’re always here to help you figure out what works best for you.

A reminder for every bride

There is no “perfect” time to start your wedding dress journey.

But giving yourself space means:

  • less pressure

  • more clarity

  • and a much more enjoyable experience

You don’t need to rush the moment you find your dress. You just need enough time to enjoy it.
